Hair disasters can be a horrifying experience for many. Many people go in for coloring or styling and come out with unanticipated results. Before darkening or lightening the hair, use a deep conditioning treatment. This must be done even after the color or color removers are applied. The hair shaft can retain color deposits due to protein. When the outer cuticle of the hair shaft is smooth, discoloration and irregular fading can be prevented.



 



If the hair coloring disaster has already occurred, you can try and remove as much excess color as possible by applying a strong shampoo. Use a detergent-based shampoo and use many applications of it. After shampooing the hair, allow it to stay for a few minutes. Ensure that you do not expose the scalp too much. Rinse thoroughly and then repeat for a couple of days. For slight brassiness, use an anti-brass shampoo to reduce the effect. If there is excess brassiness, you may require a hair color correction product designed especially to remove brass. A hair color toner may be applied to remove subtle blond brassiness. Otherwise, you could also lighten the hair further using a high lift color or darken the hair further so that the gold or red is not so prominent.


 



For hair that has turned excessively warm, use ash-based cool color. If you need to use bleach or high lift color, go in for streaking as this will keep the damage to a minimum. If the disaster is mainly at the ends of the hair, get a trim or a haircut. It is important to remember that it is difficult to correct hair that is already in poor condition. Also, using more hair color treatment will cause the hair to split further. Healthy hair when colored causes the light to reflect differently. The same effect may not be achieved with damaged hair. Use reverse highlighting to correct hair that is over tightened or excessively bleached. Highlighting minimizes damage and looks more attractive.
