Causes of Split Ends

Split ends on the hair are a common problem for many people, which occur when the protective cuticle that is at the end of the hair, is destroyed. This causes the end of a single hair strand to spit into two or more strands. When this problem affects more than half the strands of hair in a person, it can look very ugly and can be quite an embarrassment.

This is because split ends are often associated with poor hair care. However, there could be several factors that could lead to split ends. Some of the most common causes of split ends are overexposure to the sun, excessive washing of the hair, combing the hair with the wrong brush, and using harsh hair care products like dyes and hot iron.

Split Ends Treatment

People are constantly looking for options on how to get rid of split ends. Some hair care product manufacturers claim that it is possible to repair strands of hair that have already been split.

However, this is a myth, because once the damage is done, there is little that can be done to salvage the strands of hair. Therefore, split ends treatment is usually aimed at controlling the problem and not repairing the damaged hair. It has been seen that most people are more comfortable using split ends home remedies. Given below are some tips on how to get rid of split ends naturally, which can prevent unsightly strands of split hair, from ruining the beauty of your hair:

Do not comb or brush your hair too much, as it could cause the hair strands to break. In fact combing, wet hair is one of the foremost reasons for split ends. While combing your hair make sure that your hair is dry and you use a wide-toothed comb or brush.

Most electronic gadgets like hairdryers, curlers, irons, as well as perms and dyes cause a lot of damage to the hair and can lead to split ends. People who seriously want to reduce the problem need to stay away from all such devices. In case the use of a hairdryer is essential, then the drying should be placed at least 6 inches away from the hair at all times.

Keep your hair protected from the sun, wind, and extreme cold, by wearing a scarf or a hat when going outdoors. Keeping the hair moisturized during the day is also very important.
